So many things come to mind when you say the name Audrey Hepburn. She was a graceful woman who makes true the cliché of beauty inside and out. She was of course also a fashion icon who created such distinctive and classic looks that her style endures even today. She was helped along by her lifelong close friendship with the fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, who created many of her iconic movie looks.

So what were some of those classic looks that we associate with Audrey Hepburn? Here’s a round up of just a few of her classic styles. And in case they’ve inspired you, also a few dress ideas you can use to pay homage to this Hollywood fashion icon.

Little Black Dress from Sabrina

Sabrina is a film from 1954 when Audrey was still quite new to Hollywood. It was the film where she first met Givenchy. Although when he heard that Ms Hepburn wanted to meet him, he was disappointed at first to realise she was not in fact the Katherine Hepburn he had been expecting!

One of the iconic looks he designed for the movie is this flared black dress.

Retro Little Black Dress Audrey Hepburn SabrinaYou can replicate this look with our Veronica Retro Style little black dress. Like the Sabrina dress it is fitted through the bodice and waist, then flaring out into a classic A-line swing skirt. Why not add accessories to ‘Audrey it up’ a little more. A chic hat, belt, gloves and low-heeled black shoes will give you the whole look.

Little Black Dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s

This is a look also created by Givenchy, and easily her most iconic. If you ever wanted to dress up as Audrey for some kind of costume party, this is the look everyone would be expecting.

Though certainly not a Givenchy creation, the Iris Black Vintage Pencil Dress comes close. It has a similar look in that it is also a fitted sheath style dress, just without the full length. To give yourself the full Audrey look, it is essential to of course add big sunglasses and a pearl necklace. Then take yourself off to a café and have a coffee and croissant and viola! 🙂

Yellow Floral Print Dress from Funny Face

Audrey wasn’t only about LBDs, she also looked amazing in floral dresses too. This dress is another one by Givenchy – a publicity shot for Audrey’s movie Funny Face.

Isn’t that splash of yellow just gorgeous!

If you are looking for some florals with a similar look, here are a couple of suggestions. The Mellow Yellow Floral 50s Dress is a yellow floral print sundress with a cinched in waist and full skirt. Wear it with ballet flats and a wide-brimmed hat like Audrey’s for a look inspired by Funny Face.

And although it’s not yellow, here is a another floral with that small waist and full skirt style. The Orange Splash Retro Floral Dress also has cap sleeves which more closely fit with Audrey’s dress in the movie.
