We know that a 50s style dress is always in vogue. But have you noticed how many celebrities have tapped into vintage styling too? They know how flattering the retro look can be.

In this post, we look at some modern celebrities who look just gorgeous in retro styling.

These ladies really know how to put together a vintage look. We love how they have kept their styling simple, yet elegantly vintage at the same time. So here they are, ranked in no particular order:

1. Zooey Deschanel

With her lovely pale, creamy skin, blue eyes and long dark hair she could pass for Bettie Page’s modern day younger sister. Zooey suits retro girly glamour down to the ground so its little wonder that she loves to wear it too. She is known for her super-feminine girly styling, rarely seen out of dresses and skirts. Zooey is often seen in 50s inspired florals or swing dresses and she also likes to include small retro touches such as fishnet stockings to her overall look.

Above she’s wearing a teal colour that really suits her colouring. Fitted at the waist with some crossover pleating at the bust, this pencil dress is a beautiful vintage look for her.

And below, Zooey is showing off some more gorgeous 50s style in these three dresses. Whether a casual floral or a more formal 50s inspired evening dress, she’s used these vintage designs to achieve a very stylish and timeless look.

Her advice for wearing vintage? “Wear what looks good on you. Also, fabrics have gotten a lot more comfortable in recent years, so new clothes with vintage cuts are also a great option for practicality.” (ref: interview in refinery29.com).

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

Who is number 2?

Funnily enough our next celebrity is often mistaken for Zooey Deschanel. They almost look like they could be sisters and this celebrity is also often compared with Bettie Page. Do you know who it is?

It’s Katy Perry!

2. Katy Perry

Pop star Katy Perry shares Zooey Deschanael’s (and Bettie Page’s) coloring of light skin, dark hair and blue eyes.

Her curvy figure works well with retro styles and she knows it. She told W Magazine that before she was famous and had money she would shop at thrift stores for vintage items that she knew would suit her figure. ”I’d go to the thrift stores on State Street and get my vintage cardigans and pencil skirts. Thank God for the body, because that ’40s look really worked on me.” (source:W Magazine interview)

And its not just 40s style that looks great on Katy. As these pictures show, she is a natural for the 50s look too – whether its pin up, casual or evening glamour.

We just love the twirl on that swing dress!

3. Adele

She is so famous now her first name is enough. Although her full name is actually a rather nice name and celebrity worthy; Adele Laurie Blue Adkins. She has a powerful voice and is charmingly down to earth and her fashion style is also note-worthy. She knows how to put herself together well. Her stylist Gaelle Paul told Life & Style Weekly magazine of Adele’s interest in retro fashion. “Adele loves vintage,” she says. So as her stylist she arranges for someone to trawl the markets for clothes Adele would love. They are typically black, because she loves that colour. Although Adele’s style is more influenced by the 60s, she is often seen in beautiful black dresses with retro Hollywood glamour touches of beading or lace.

Adele often completes her vintage styling with a retro look for her hair and make up. She has beautiful skin and bone structure which she enhances with blush and 60’s inspired cat’s eye eyeliner and tops this off with big hair, sometimes done up in a beehive.

Her biggest secret though is confidence. Although she is not super slim like many other singers in Hollywood, she has fewer insecurities than many of them. As she said in an interview with Vogue Magazine: “I enjoy being me; I always have done. I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, you know, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I don’t want that in my life.”
